Tanvir Mokammel (b. 1955) has built a six-feature, fifteen-documentary body of work around the 1971 Liberation War, Partition displacement and Bengal’s syncretic folk traditions. Chitra Nodir Pare (1999), about a Hindu family deciding whether to leave post-Partition East Bengal, placed third in the British Film Institute’s poll of Bangladeshi cinema. He won the National Film Award for Best Director twice and received the Ekushey Padak in 2017. He directs the Bangladesh Film Institute in Dhaka.
