Suman Mukhopadhyay (b. 1966), son of the theatre director Arun Mukhopadhyay, works in theatre and film alike. His debut Herbert (2005), from Nabarun Bhattacharya’s novel, won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. Kangal Malsat (2013) was refused certification by the CBFC and cleared only on appeal; Putulnacher Itikatha screened in Rotterdam’s Big Screen Competition in 2025.
