Raisul Islam Asad (b. 1953), a Crack Platoon fighter in the 1971 Liberation War, has been the anchoring presence of Bangladesh’s literary art cinema for five decades. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor four times — for Gautam Ghose’s Padma Nadir Majhi, Anya Jibon, Morshedul Islam’s Dukhai and Tanvir Mokammel’s Lalsalu — and twice more for supporting work.
