Mostofa Sarwar Farooki (b. 1973) is Bangladesh’s most internationally visible contemporary director, associated with the break from Dhallywood melodrama toward vernacular, improvisation-driven realism. Television (2012) closed the Busan International Film Festival and won the Asia Pacific Screen Awards Grand Jury Prize, and three of his features have been Bangladesh’s Academy Award submissions. He cast Irrfan Khan in Doob (2017).
