Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury is a Toronto-based Bangladeshi-Canadian writer-director whose debut feature Boli (2023) won the New Currents Award at Busan, the festival’s top prize for a first- or second-time Asian director. Set in a remote Chattogram coastal village in the late 1990s, it follows a fisherman determined to unseat the local champion at boli khela, a regional wrestling tradition.
